The Letting It Ride syndicate is about to debut. This Wednesday night at Cannington in what will hopefully be the lucky last race the greyhound Let It Ride will grace the Cannington circuit for his debut race. The ten member strong Letting It Ride syndicate (No you’re right we weren’t up all night thinking up that syndicate name!) are in readiness to make their way to Cannington central, freeze their collective butts off and wait around until the last race for some racing entertainment. For many of the members it’s their first ever venture into greyhound racing and nothing is more exciting than that.
The syndicate came together to take advantage of the Letting It Ride package and now the first of the three packaged greyhound pronged attack is about to get underway. The former Victorian in the greyhound Let It Ride was picked up the best part of six weeks ago and brought to Perth for the syndicate. With solid but not brilliant distance form in Melbourne it was thought the Cannington 530 and 642 metre distances may suit the average beginner but strong finisher. Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen but under the expert training of Christine “Diamond” Bennett, we’re confident a consistent career will unfold.
Having had a look at the track the syndicate was very pleased with his sectionals and overall time and while we’re not expecting to punch out and lead any race any time soon, we’re fairly comfortable in thinking Rusty, as Let It ride is known around the kennels, will be getting to the line extremely strongly at the business end of the race.
Wednesday night race eleven it all gets underway and I don’t think we’d be out of line in suggesting that the graders and box drawers haven’t done the Letting It Ride Syndicate any favours. They’re obviously not your Salvation Army warm and friendly giving types because they have said, “Here you go, wear the green rug and wait around until the last race for your debut.”
As Kermit the Frog says, it’s not easy being green, nor is it easy wearing green. Despite not owning substantial early pace box six will do little to help Let It Ride’s cause in what is a tricky race. This event has several similar type greyhounds which may all be looking for the same run. The get back run on types always need a lot of luck but at least you know you don’t have to be leading to still be in the race.
Cleveland from box one, finally with a good draw, has to come into this race with decent chances. It has a massive finishing motor and will be one of the few in this field getting home at the end. If it happens to step and sit in the first three or four then look out because it will possibly carve out an 11.30 run home and blow them out of the water. Tetrahedron is the other similar greyhound to Let It Ride if only in running styles. It will also be getting back to the rear early and looking to get home late.
Mexican Dancer in box five, Mali in box seven or Double Platinum in box eight appear the leaders here and if one of the latter two happen to lead then the race may almost be decided there and then.
![]() From the Letting It Ride Syndicate’s point of view, it’s all about the occasion on debut. How Rusty is going to go is really anyone’s guess. We will learn a lot about the greyhound from this run on Wednesday night and we’d like to think and it’s fair to expect that he may improve on whatever he does.
Rusty will be back in the field early and looking to get home. If he puts in a solid run where he is getting to the line late, that will be satisfying on debut.
Rapt In Racing wishes all the very best to the Letting It Ride Syndicate Members. With each member sharing in Rusty and two young pups we hope Wednesday night will be the beginnings of an entertaining four year racing journey.
